Madchess was a game mode based off the game chess.

It was removed on 18 February 2021 (V1.624).

Gameplay[]

Players are split into 2 teams, each team provided with 16 game pieces. They can control multiple game pieces at different times (depending on number of players). The objective of each team is to capture (kill) the king on the other team so that the team can win.

Unlike normal chess, there are no checks nor checkmates. There are no illegal moves involving king captures either. The king can step into a check, pieces can step out of a pin to the king, and so on.

If neither side captures the opposing king in 3 minutes, the game will be drawn, even if it is a lone king vs 8 queens.

Game pieces[]

Like chess, there are 16 game pieces per team, which they are 8 pawns, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 2 rooks, a queen and a king. Each game piece can move every 11 seconds, regardless if another game piece was moved.

Special moves[]

Castling[]

Castling is an act of 'swapping' the king and rook. The king can step two squares to a rook, and the rook will be moved to the square the king skipped. However, it needs these condition fulfilled:

  • The king hasn't moved
  • The target rook hasn't moved
  • Nothing is between the king and target rook

Only the player that owns the king can castle, and only the king will go cooldown. Therefore, the king and rook can cooperate to use castle offensively.

En passant[]

When a pawn advances two squares from its starting position and there is an opponent's pawn next to its destination square, then the opponent's pawn can capture it, and move to the square the pawn passed over.

Notes[]

  • The points of pieces are only to tell how powerful the piece is in general situations, and have no impact on the gameplay.
  • Any piece can dodge opponent's capture by moving squares when the opponent starts moving to your piece, but this require a good reflex.

Bugs[]

  • The area in the bar above the screen that shows which map is playing and current shaman shows the previous map that was played before the player enters madchess.
  • When the player leaves madchess, their chat bubble is glitched to be smaller than the usual chat bubble.
